Not a bad unit..heater issue … update and change of ratiingThe build takes time. Just follow the picture style directions closely. It turned out just as we expected.I have one major issue with the one I received. The heating unit does NOT work properly. It will turn on and run for about 30 – 45seconds and then shut off. I’m guessing there is some kind of thermal switch that shuts it off if it gets too hot.But 30 – 45 seconds is not acceptable. Now I have to try and figure out how to get that issue solved without having to return the whole unit.If there is anyone out there that has had the same issue and had it resolved to your satisfaction …please let me know how you did it.*** UPDATE ***I called customer service on Friday and told them of my problem. The rep. asked me a few questionS. After that took my info and the following Wed. the new unit showed up.Great customer service response to the issue and shipping of the replacement heating unit.Thank you

Beautiful but smaller than expectedThis fire place is really pretty. It arrived earlier than expected in one big box, which was far too heavy for me to get in the house. I ended up opening it up and bringing the two smaller boxes inside separately; then I was able to get the larger inside box in the door and I pushed it across the floor to my den. It took me approximately two and a half hours to put this together by myself. It wasn’t too difficult but there are a lot of small screws and other hardware to keep track of. They give you one extra baggie with some spare pieces in it, which was AWESOME, because I lost a couple tiny screws in my shag carpet during assembly. I gave this 4 stars because it is NOT 55″ wide as advertised, it actually measures about 47″ wide. But I still love it! It’s a very nice looking piece, the ‘fire’ looks great and the heater is immediately warm. There are no levels to the heat, just on or off. But you can turn the ‘fire’ on without the heater which is nice. Overall I like this very much and would recommend it.UPDATE: After being on the floor with the cats I noticed a large crack with several smaller cracks next to it in the “logs” of the fireplace. I’m assuming it was dropped during shipping or something, and I’ve never gotten quite that close to look at it. I will be trying to get in touch with the manufacturer to see if I can just have the firebox replaced.

Pretty nice…however…Ok…it came yesterday and I lugged it into the house. Unboxed it today and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the packaging. All pieces were there and in good shape. The directions were ok, just pics but it wasn’t hard. It took me right at three hours to do this myself but I took my time, studying the directions before putting pieces together. This thing has a good fit and finish to it. It’s a really sturdy piece. Not the typical Sauder stuff. It is kinda dark but like someone else pointed out, when the sun hits it, some really pretty reds come out.The fireplace…well now. The heater puts out pretty good heat. The “logs” are pretty cheesy looking, lol. It has flashing LEDs behind it. But it’s ok…I guess.Tips. One reviewer said “let gravity be your friend “…boy was he right. The wooden dowels just rest in the holes…easy enough to get around, just pay attention. Magnetic tipped screw drivers will make your life easier. When you put the heater in place there’s not a bunch of room to get between it and the inside wall. You can’t get your hand in there while holding a screw to get it started…unless you have an eight year old handy to do it for you, lol. Also…a stubby screwdriver helps when installing the doors. Also, an electric screwdriver will help too…just be CAREFUL not to over tighten!!!So…all in all it’s pretty good. Worth the $350 I paid. Easy enough to assemble and was packaged with care. It gets 4 stars because of the cheesy logs…

Visually relaxingThe TV stand has a nice design and appearance and the fireplace gives a relaxing, soothing atmosphere. Overall it is a very nice investment and looks great in the livingroom. Construction wise, there are some problems. The unit that I received has several issues. First, the holes for the dowels are all too large in diameter so that the dowels wobbled when placed. A number of these were also much too deep such that the dowels fell completely into the holes. Second, the holes drilled for the screw locks were clearly done with a dull bit based upon burn marks and the rough edges. Third, the glass door panels did not mount snugly into place and thus they wobble where they attach to the side panels. Forth and lastly, the veneer, or what looks more like vinyl laminate, was rolled back from several corners when I removed some of the pieces from the box, ranging from 1/2 cm to a full cm. QA should have caught this and had it corrected before packaging. For the price it isn’t bad given that it isn’t made of hardwood such as a good mahogany, and it does set a relaxing mood. The unit could be another 3 or 4 cm taller to allow for normal hardbound books to be placed both above and below the adjustable shelves, which I would personally prefer as I have an extensive book collection, but the tops of the adjustable shelves can still be used for ornamentation. For a higher ranged unit I would also suggest a deeper fireplace module to allow a more effective 3D fire presentation, but this does work for the price.

Great customer serviceDon’t hesitate, just buy it. I bought one, loved it so bought another.I (66 yr old woman) put it together myself with no power tools. It looks daunting at first but the instructions are clear, just take it one step at a time.It took several hours but well worth it.It is heavy, sturdy and looks very high-end.The first one i purchased had a dent in the front of the fireplace insert. Very disappointing as that is the last piece of the puzzle! I contacted customer service at Ameriwood, and Tom Duff responded immediately. I sent pictures, etc. and he promptly sent a replacement via Fed Ex.I bought a second one soon after. That one arrived in perfect shape.Beautiful piece of furniture.

Great value for the moneyThis was easy to assemble with 2 people, it took a couple of hours, partially due to our limited space to work. The most difficult part was adjusting the doors just right, but even that wasn’t bad. All the parts were included and everything lined up just as it should. We have been using it for a couple months now and it still works perfectly. It is beautiful, sturdy and a great value for the money. We have a lot of DVD’s and I thought we wouldn’t be able to fit them all, but I was pleasantly surprised that they all fit. We did have to do them two rows deep though. Overall very happy!

Best furniture item purchase. Very pleasedThe media could not be loaded.
Very well packed, easy to follow step by step assembling. It’s time consuming but it’s worth the labor

Doesn’t have a remoteLooks great in my home and it wasn’t too hard to assemble. Only complaint is it doesn’t have a remote and it makes a very low whirling sound when the light animation is on

Better than I expectedI live in a small house, always wanted a fireplace, so bought this. It didn’t take too long to get it together, there were a couple of places the fit wasn’t perfect, but nothing visible when it was completed. It is heavier than I thought, which is nice. I was impressed by the heater. I have a small living room, probably 12X15, in an old house, with older windows…the curtains move when it is windy…in Wisconsin. During the coldest days, I’d turn on the fireplace and heater, and could feel the room warm almost immediately. After an hour or so of the heater being on…would need to shut it off, too warm! Definitely worth the money.
