Prefer Bush to other put-together furniture companiesRecommend you inventory everything before you start – an old ice cube tray is great for sorting the screws and easy assess during assembly. So far, I have never been shorted on any of the necessary pieces. Directions are easy and straight forward. If you have put together one Bush furniture piece, you will have no problem. I only had one screw that I had trouble getting into the partially drilled hole. One word to the wise – you do need hand strength in order to have the torque to assemble, but I was able to do it by hand and I am in my late 50s. Bush’s customer service is excellent. One of the file drawer rails on my matching desk bent over time (I bought it back in 2015). They are sending my a replacement free of charge!

Description is a little misleading. The description of this product says it is made of wood. To me that would mean actual wood, like plywood. This is actually made of particle board. Outside of that, I love it. It is beautiful. My husband also used glue when assembling it to give it extra stability and longevity. I am extremely happy with it.

Waste of Time and MoneyI really hate to write this review. I really do. I have a Bush computer desk that I have been using for over 14 years and it’s great. This 2 drawer cabinet has been a nightmare. First, it arrived damaged. Not the manufacturer’s fault at all, but already a set back. The customer service lady was so nice and so helpful. I now feel bad for her because she must be get a ton of miserable phone calls. All the reviews on how difficult this thing is to put together are correct. You are in for a two hour assembly time. This could have been so much better if they had put in just a bit more effort on the instructions. All of that I could forgive if at the end I got a good looking and functional product. I didn’t. Whoever placed the holes for the runners did not measure correctly and they are a 1/4″ too low and the drawer won’t shut. I have tried every possibility I can to make this right and no matter what, the out come is the same. Not. Measured. Correctly. I tried swapping the drawers. I remounted the runners using different runners in different positions. Hours of sweating and cursing to be left with a $300+ item that wasn’t properly manufactured. It’s sturdy and attractive, so I give them points there, and whoever the nice lady was in customer service needs a better job. But I now have to 1) do without the bottom drawer, 2) remove the runners and have the drawer remain closed and basically non-functioning, 3) spend hours disassembling, pack this 80 pounds of sawdust back in the box, schlep it over the the shipping store and wait days/weeks for a replacement that could be in the same state, or 4) drill my own holes and try to fix their mistake.

Awesome!I researched extensively to find a couple of matching desks for a home office. The biggest issue I had with the desks is trying to find out that was a reasonable price but wasn’t ridiculously cheap. I have found (with 2-3 other “cheap” desks) that you tend to get what you pay for. You sometimes even still get poor quality when you pay a great deal. As such, I was nervous to buy this desk but I have generally had great luck following reviews on Amazon to buy products so I decided to try it. We decided to buy this matching file cabinet to go with the desks.Thoughts:1. I love the desk! Forgive the poor quality pictures (it’s not a ringing endorsement of the ipad’s camera) but I hope you can see how nice they look. They were much better lookin that I felt the promotion picture showed.2. I love that they are on feet! I honestly didn’t even think about it when I bought the desks but the ability to reach outlets behind the desk, sneak cords underneath to the surge protector/plug in other electronics, not cover up the heating duct has been a huge plus to this collection! The feet have 8 screws in each of them so they are extremely sturdy as well.3. The drawers were deeper than I expected. My parents gave us a home-made file cabinet that was considerably wider than this. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to fit as much in the cabinet. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was actually able to put everything in 1 drawer that I was able to fit in about 3/4 of the bottom drawer of the old one. I also loved that they were deeper than I expected. I use the top drawer as a catch-all for office equipment and was amazed at how much I was able to pile up and put in there.4. I like that it is the exact same height as the desk you can put it at the end as a sort of desk extender. There have been times that I have needed to work from home and have needed the extra space!Con:1. The wood laminate is thinner than I would have hoped. Again, all desks (even relatively expensive desks) seem to have this issue but I was hoping for more. I found that it was easily remidied by getting a furniture marker in a matching color, but I had hoped for more.Overall, I love the cabinet and the desks!

Nice File Cabinet – Holds Lots of StuffPurchased the file cabinet to match the desk. Love both the file cabinet and the desk but not easy to put together. Having a second person really helps due to the weight of various pieces. Directions were clear, but 18 steps to put an item together in a lot. Well worth it!

Very disappointingVery disappointed. I spent a fair amount of time, several hours reviewing the different products and the reviews. I chose this Bush lateral file because I know the name and felt they offered a good value for the money. The reviews were mixed, but overall positive. The one big positive I can state is when I called customer service because I thought I was missing a part, the phone was answered by someone in the US, clearly speaking English and she was friendly and prompt. Turned out, I wasn’t missing a part, just that the manual didn’t clearly explain the drawer slides which you mount early in the process need to have the inner slide mechanism removed and set aside to later be mounted on the drawer. It looks nice. That’s the only positive I can come up with aside from the customer service.Overall, the price is a bit high for the quality, especially considering you have to assemble this thing. The biggest disappointment is the feet are plastic. They’re the feet, you would think they could make them out of anodized aluminum or some kind of lightweight alloy. I fully envision the feet getting hit sometime in the next few years and them getting busted and there goes the cabinet’s usefulness. Lots of plastic parts, way more than I care for in an item I hope lasts a long time and should be able to handle some weight. One of the brackets which attaches to the side of the drawer was malformed. It attached, but not very well, a bit loose. I can live with it.Second big disappointment, top drawer won’t close. It goes in and bounces out. Gives me more reason to worry about how long it will last. And believe me, I slowly and methodically put this together to ensure I got it right. I carefully examined all the pictures as I was assembling it. I am confident it was assembled correctly, so the drawer should close and stay closed. Bottom drawer works exactly the way it should. As for the instructions, not too bad, although the biggest problem is the parts listing, specifically the screws. There are so many screws and some are mixed together in different bags. There are two different 1/2″ screws. They each have a number assigned to them and each in different bags. But w/o part numbers on the bags or color photos of them, pretty hard to tell one 1/2″ screw from another just from a black & white graphic.Yes, I was aware this was MDF, but it still seems fairly cheap, even for MDF. As I was screwing in some of the final screws for the bracer bar that goes on the bottom of the drawer, the “wood” started splitting a bit. Yet another reason for me to worry about the longevity of this product. For another $100, I could have had a HON delivered, no assembly necessary, and I know it will be here in 50 years. At this point, I feel cheated.

Painful to assemble; toll free number not helpfulFor $256, one expects a pretty high quality product with reasonably easy assembly. Not so with this Bush product. It’s the highest quality particle board China makes. Yes, I’m being sarcastic. Worse, the instructions are painful to work through – see the pic for one example. Many screw holes have a pilot hole started, but not nearly deep or wide enough for a normal screw-in – it takes herculean effort to get many screws to drive into place without enormous pressure and/or stripping the screw head. The toll-free number for assembly help was essentially worthless – the CSR, when referred to the missing screw placements in the pic, simply said “it’s a process of elimination.” Whatever that means. I used up many extra brain cells to finally figure out that the short screws belonged to the plastic pieces I had already attached to the drawer fronts. Most other assemble-yourself furniture at least has SOME items pre-assembled, and Bush could have done that in this case and maintained a flat pack. But you are literally screwing in a hundred screws, cam locks, and so on to get this thing assembled. I probably could have gotten something at a discount furniture store, assembled and delivered, for half the price. Can’t recommend this product.

Not impressedDidn’t like the fact that the feet were plastic and couldn’t get one of the drawers to line up to well, for over $200 I expected a little more.

Beautiful but frustrating to assembleI absolutely love this cabinet. It matches my office perfectly and holds everything I need. So far it seems pretty sturdy. My one complaint was during assembly. It did take me quite awhile because I was doing it alone, and had no major issues until I got to the drawers. I could not get the bottom drawer to shut to save my life!!!! I had to recruit my fiance to assist after I gave up in frustration. After about an hour of adjusting screws ever so slightly we took off the anti tilt mechanism and it seemed as though the bottom lock was slightly bowed out. We bent it just a little and after that the drawers shut seamlessly.

FOUR PARTS MISSING, ONE PART BROKEN – UPDATE: I CHANGED MY RATINGFOUR PARTS MISSING, ONE PART BROKENEnough said. How would YOU feel? Bush Somerset file cabinet missing/broken parts:Broken:One piece: H184144 Anti Tip WedgeMissing: Two pieces: H173172 Drawer Support; Two pieces: H89793 File BarUPDATE JANUARY 14, 2020:The Bush customer service was friendly and helpful. The replacement parts arrived about a week later, one day earlier than expected (New York to Los Angeles shipping). Final assembly went well.I had a need for this letter file on a specific day; and the missing parts blew my schedule. Aside from that, it’s a fair value for the money, about what I expected. It looks good, and there were no issues with mis-drilled holes as mentioned in the other reviews. Drawer alignment was fine – no adjustments were needed.Since Bush did their best to help (although they should have noticed the missing parts at the factory), and I’m happy with the assembled cabinet, I changed my rating from one star to three stars. I would’ve given four stars out of five if not for the hassle with missing parts.
