10 reviews for DHP Jasper Coil, Multi-Position Design, Mustard Yellow Linen Futon,

  1. Amazon Customer

Fantastic Sleeper Sofa for This RangeJust got ‘er in today, but I wanted to give a quick review of my experience thus far, because I’m so happy with my little yellow couch! I’ve broken my review down into subcategories for ease of comprehension.ORDERING AND DELIVERY: 5/5. Got here sooner than originally planned (ordered Sunday, received today, Friday morning; originally slated for a 7- to 10-day delivery time… underpromise and overdeliver, I see you, Amazon!). The box is a big, big boy. Not wide – maybe 18″ish or so across – but tall, almost 4 feet high, and heavy as a sonofagun (I’d guess 105 or 110 lbs). Fully assembled, a 5’8″ or 5’9″ person can fit perfectly comfortably both length-wise and seat depth-wise, sitting and laying down, so it’s not a small piece. I’m glad I live on the main floor and that I was home to help the nice delivery guys slither the box up the stairs and through the door. Don’t worry about porch pirates making off with this guy unless you live near kleptomaniac bodybuilders, because it ain’t going nowhere without some serious help.ASSEMBLY: 4/5. I’m not the fittest gal around, nor am I particularly spatially gifted, but I’m fairly strong, and I have a rich and storied history with flat-pack/ready-to-assemble furniture. That being said, my 3 brain cells and I panicked when I first opened the box and I didn’t see the legs or hardware anywhere. Look for the red plastic string dangling out of the main cushion when you take it out of the box! Open it up/unfold it and you’ll find all the legs and hardware tucked in there sneaky-sneaky-like in a cardboard box. Everything was all there. I did break a decent sweat putting this thing together, which took me maybe 1h20m/1h30m. I had to pop a hole in the fabric on an arm piece because it hadn’t been properly cut during manufacturing, but no biggie; there was a hole in the wood, just needed to take an Xacto knife and finish the job in the fabric. 5.5/10 difficulty for assembly; it’s a large piece so it’s pretty awkward and heavy to assemble yourself, but doable, and direction-wise, I’ve seen and assembled way worse.QUALITY AND COMFORT: 4.8/5. It’s a $300 – $400 sleeper sofa, so I’m aware that it isn’t gonna be solid hand-carved mahogany, stuffed with rare Norwegian goose down and/or an heirloom that will be a museum piece one day. But I knew that going in at this price point – if I get 5 or 7 years out of this guy, I’ll be thrilled. As a couch, it’s a perfect mix of squishy foam and supportive coils/frame. I’ve yet to sleep on it, and will update if needed, but I’m guessing it’ll be a respectable enough bed for a family member/friend who’s staying for the occasional long weekend or so.N.B.: I did deduct .2 points here. Like pretty much every couch that isn’t overstuffed to begin with, it needs some throw pillows to make it perfectly snuggly, and I did subtract a teensy bit just because I don’t think it’ll withstand repeated abuse well – but for $300/$400ish, hopefully you knew that going in. If you’ve got young/destructive kids/grandkids, big dogs, claw-happy cats or if you yourself love to body-slam yourself down on the couch with all your might, you’re gonna have a bad time with this couch, because it isn’t built to handle that. But if you’re single/a couple, only have the occasional guest, and/or have older/gentler kids/pets/you yourself and aren’t gonna swing on it and beat it to death, I feel like it’s solid enough to last you a good few years or more. My cats are ungrateful hellions who love to scratch all the nice things I own, so I’m bummed in advance that it’s gonna have 18 million claw-sized puncture holes.VALUE FOR MONEY: 5/5. Well done Amazon for having the best price on this guy. Wayfair wanted $369 for it (sold under the name “Joy Sleeper Sofa by Foundstone”), and DHP’s website (the company that manufactures this) wanted $444 AND they were out of stock. I picked up this boy for $299.99 and couldn’t be more delighted to know that other people paid more than I did.OVERALL: 5/5. You’re not buying a custom-made artisan sofa, you’re buying a couch on Amazon that you have to put together yourself with a Munchkin-sized wrench and some ambiguous diagrams. It isn’t gonna survive prolonged or repeated manhandling, but you already knew that going in. For a sleeper sofa of this price range, it’s a fantastic deal, and you won’t find better in its class. Will it last you 20 years of heavy use? No. But will it be a very cute little sleeper sofa that’ll see you through the occasional houseguest and some normal sitting and lounging? Yes, and it’ll look darn adorable the whole time.

Great buy, little issueArrived 3 days earlier than scheduled. Easy to assemble but you have to make sure you keep all of the bolts loose before tightening as later in the process when you go to add another piece the bracket needs to wobble a bit to get the screws lined up. I would change the instruction to attach and not just put on the side rails as it is a lot easier to assemble to the corner brackets. It does not sit level but it is a no issue once you get on it. More than likely it is due to the different levels of tightening of the parts. SO SO SO VERY COMFORTABLE. I would buy the entire furniture set if they make one.(going to check today).

Good enoughMy home is small and has way too much stuff in it (especially books and bookcases!), and my second bedroom is really more of a library/storage room/home office. I needed *something* to put in there that wouldn’t take up too much room but would offer an extra sleeping area when needed. This futon is just fine for that. I gave my guests the master bedroom, and I slept on the futon. It’s comfortable enough for a night or two, but I wouldn’t want to sleep on it for much longer than that. (In fact, if I have guests who want to stay for a week or so, I plan to purchase a futon mattress to put on top of this one.)Assembly would have been much easier if the holes matched up, but that seems to be par for the course these days. Once assembled, it’s quite sturdy. My biggest complaint is that it’s so low to the ground. Fine for kids, but not anyone with any of the normal aches and pains of aging. Bed risers aren’t the answer, because you need to be able to move the futon away from the wall to turn it into a bed. I purchased new legs for it, and it’s so much better now.The full size will be a tight squeeze for two adults; some may consider that a negative, others may view that favorably.

Perfect shadeEasy to put together with just yourself or if you have someone to help it will make it a tad better. Firm and sturdy once put together.. love the reclining feature and the fact on a rainy day you can lounge on the couch with it fully converted. I’d definitely buy again

Updated Review 4/264/23/22Shipping was as expected, the box was delivered via UPS and in good shape. 1 starAfter reading the reviews posted previously, I knew not to tighten any of the bolts prior to finished assembly. The fit was still a little iffy but it did the trick, all bolts lined up and it went together smoothly. Patience prevails. I always take the time to thoroughly peruse the parts list ensuring that everything is included: they were.Written instructions are ok – not great but ok as long as you are not in a hurry. Step 4 (for me) was a challenge as I’m a literalist. The lack of mentioning ‘have the couch open, upside down – preferably elevated on a stool (etc) prior to attempting this step’ threw me off a bit. Of course, looking at the illustration you clearly see the couch opened and oriented properly. Re-read the part about having the couch elevated on a stool or something else if you will be assembling by yourself. Thank me later :)1 starOverall, the assembly was fairly easy and took less than 30 minutes using the included tools. I do have power tools, etc however I prefer to offer a complete review. 2 starsUPDATE: 4/26Leaving this review at 4 stars as, while it is comfortable at the moment, it may take a while to break in. The futon is ‘as expected’ for the price – it’s quite firm and there is little give to the cushion(s). I will update after a couple of months of use.

So Far, So Great!Delivery was one day early! Awesome. As well, I live in a mountain town on a lake at 7,000 feet elevation. Deliveries are difficult at times (especially now because it is winter and covered in snow). I was nervous about being able to even receive the item, let alone a day earlier than expected.Assembly was done in about an hour by myself alone. HINT: when attaching the seat of the futon to the arms of the futon, use a 13mm deep socket with a ratchet as the tiny open crescent wrench provided would have taken FOREVER!Stylish, comfortable, and surprisingly sturdy. I really, really appreciate the extra legs inside the zippers behind the seatbacks on both sides. I didn’t see these mentioned in the description, but they really should have been, it adds stability that is needed. As well, I didn’t see mentioned that the seatbacks are separate, not one solid piece. You can lay them down separately! The seatback has three positions; upright, lounge, and flat. The color was true to the picture in the description, as well as the dimensions.Overall I am excited about my new sofa!I only rated 4 stars on comfort and stability because I just received the futon and I need some time to use it to give it 5 stars.

Great results, but the journey is long and hard…Let’s get the good stuff out up front: the end result is great. Looks clean and nice, and is super comfortable. Seems well-built. I like that both sections can be adjusted individually, and have well-hidden legs in the zippered backs to support it when open. Overall, it’s a huge improvement over what we had before for a pretty reasonable price. Now for the bad…Delivery:Frankly, I’m not sure Amazon should even be selling this, as the delivery companies are completely unprepared for it. In my case it was FedEx who seemed to go out of their way to find excuses not to deliver it, with claims of my gate not working, and claiming my “business” (home) was closed when I was actively home and no attempt was made to reach me. But eventually after much fighting with them over the phone, they arranged a time to deliver it. A rather small delivery person in a small van arrived and called me, and I met him out front. The box was impossibly large and heavy for him to manage on his own, and I had to help. While I was happy to do so, again, this is not something the delivery companies are apparently equipped to handle AT ALL.As we got it inside my apartment complex and to the staircase, we were faced with the impossibility of getting it up the stairs. And as we attempted to do so, parts began to fall out of the box, which had ALL FOUR corners destroyed. I think it might be smart for the company to reinforce the corners with some sort of corner plastic sheeting to prevent this in the future. We decided our only option was to rip open the box in the alleyway and carry the pieces up individually, with my fingers crossed the whole time that none were missing. Eventually they were all in and he was on his way.Assembly:Thankfully all the pieces were there. The company managed to pack everything small in a package kept between the cushions, ensuring it was safe from this sort of damage, with only the larger pieces on the outside. Instructions were mostly clear, although they warn of not over-tightening until done, but never indicate when to tighten and just how seriously they mean this. I eventually found with several components that not over-tightening basically meant to barely screw it in at all, because if it’s even remotely close to its finished spot the holes no longer line up with the next steps. But then, on step 2, we ran into a serious problem. One of the side pieces had the wrong-sized screw holes in it for the hand-tightened, double-ended bolts provided. I couldn’t get them to go in more than a smidge. Assuming it was me for a while, I then tried the other side piece and everything went in without a hitch. I tried several screws and all the holes and confirmed every single one on that side piece was wrong. I had to reach out to the company via the form on their website, and then had a back-and-forth via email with photos, proof of purchase, etc. They shipped a replacement which arrived TEN days later, but was functionally correct. The rest of the setup was rough. It’s not easy to put together. Super heavy main unit, plus screw holes that are VERY hard to line up. If you’re used to IKEA, this is definitely far from it. This process led to a lot of profanity and sweat and annoyance. But eventually it was complete, and you know the results.I do recommend this futon, but the warnings need to be heeded. Expect work, take not overtightening screws to its most extreme level, and have time, water (or something stronger), and calming music on hand.

Good sofa/futonWe decided to make an office in our home. This is a great little sofa in the area. It was the perfect size. Love the color and it is comfortable enough.

Great futon but awful assemblyThis looks so cute put together. It’s futon after all, so considering that, it’s great! However,The assembly was awful. Some holes weren’t there that needed to be there, had to make my own. The box and couch was full of some sort of wood dust from mean it was everywhere. First thought it was bug eggs or something. But realized it was wood particles. Even after it was together it still falls out of the futon. Very strange and annoying. It’s sturdy and cute. But you need patience when it comes to assembly 😊

Nice FutonI wanted something like a couch, but like a futon, that would be comfortable for overnight guests – whether relaxing on it watching TV in the sunroom, or if I needed an extra “bed”. This Futon was the perfect choice for me because I was on a tight budget, and I needed something that could be delivered directly to my home, and that would be easy for me to move to the second level. This product came in a large box, but inside were all the pieces, so it was easy for me to get each piece upstairs. I knew that there would be “some assembly required”, but I am a handy-type-girl who has assembled many pieces of furniture so it didn’t bother me that there were many pieces to assemble, using various nuts, bolts, screws, etc. It probably would have been easier to have another person help me, i.e., hold the pieces in place while I assembled, but hey, I never back down from a challenge, and this was not that difficult. I love the green color – just exactly what I wanted. The length and width of the futon will accommodate an adult person, whether sitting or if the futon adjusted to allow someone to lie down on it. The fabric is nice as well. Is it as comfortable as an expensive couch? No, but for a futon, and for guest use only, it is exactly what I wanted. I am pleased with my purchase.
