Overall, great purchase. We had to cut it down some because we have a 7ft ceiling in the room we put it in. It was easy enough to do. The desk top came damaged, (the box was damaged I assume through shipping) but the company replaced the top no questions asked and quickly.

Please be very cautious before purchasing this bedOur 10 year-old daughter has a small bedroom and we were hoping to find a way to increase her usable space. This bed looked like the perfect solution, and we were thrilled with the idea of a desk that could be dedicated homework space. We received the bed quickly (we love Amazon Prime) and the package was in good condition, though extremely heavy. We did not assemble the bed for a few months, and we regret that; it is now too late to return the bed, and if we had the option, we would return it.This bed has several serious design flaws, an incorrect description, and some very troubling safety issues.First off, the ladder is a dedicated part of the construction and CANNOT be moved. For some reason, we thought it could go on either side, but that is not the case. When dealing with a small space, which seems to be the main reason to purchase a bed like this, the flexibility to move the ladder to the other side would be very helpful. We have only one wall that will accommodate the bed, and the ladder is on the wrong side for this configuration. Therefore, the “head” of the bed has to be pulled out about three feet from the wall so you can access the ladder. This means there is nothing to keep the pillow from falling off in the middle of the night–which it does, frequently. The ladder has other problems, too. It’s very uncomfortable on your feet. The steel bars are about 1″ and they’re just too small to support your weight comfortably when you climb. It’s painful! We’re going to try and put some pipe insulation foam on them to pad them out, but we haven’t done it yet.Climbing the ladder reveals other problems. This bed SHAKES. It feels very unstable, and every move up the ladder, or even just rolling over on the bed, causes it to sway A LOT. It needs some sort of cross support, and we’re going to try to bolt a few braces to it to try and mitigate the swaying. There are other “X” design beds very similar to this on Amazon, and I think they’d be more stable. I wish we’d have gone with one of them, but my daughter really liked the looks of the shelf on this bed……Which leads me to the shelf. It isn’t there. There is no mention of it in the directions, no place for it on the frame, no parts included. Major disappointment, since that was one of the major factors that influenced us to choose this bed.Now to the safety of this bed. It is not mentioned in the description, which I find to be an egregious omission, but this bed IS NOT DESIGNED TO WORK WITH A STANDARD SIZED TWIN MATTRESS! The bed has a warning label on it stating that you must not use a mattress any deeper than 6 inches. A standard twin will be at least 8 inches, and it almost completely fills the bed box. This means THERE IS NO SAFETY RAILING! Even with a 6″ mattress, you will only have about 5″ of safety railing. Please, before you buy this bed get out a ruler and look at exactly how big 5 inches is. Are you comfortable with that being the only thing keeping your child from a six-and-a-half foot drop? This bed is very tall, much taller than a standard bunk bed, and a fall from that height could be fatal. I spent the first night my daughter slept in this bed in an almost constant state of panic. I woke up 3 or 4 times in the night worried she’d be dead by morning. She insisted she’d be okay, but as a mother, I was, and am, very worried. There are other problems, too. The construction is pretty flimsy. For example, the bed slats are spaced by little plastic snap-in pieces, and we broke two or three of them just putting them in place. In a bed like this, it probably goes without saying, but this thing is a b*&%h to make. It took me 25 minutes to put the sheets on and my daughter can’t make it by herself. The IDEA of this bed is really cool, and it really does give you lots of extra space, but it has some serious flaws and I cannot recommend it, even though my daughter is really happy with it. Two stars because of how much my daughter likes it, but parent-to-parent, I urge you to look elsewhere.

Update on review!Update later in review.Okay so far it’s not good I will change my review depending on how well customer support helps with my issue. Unfortunately support is off today until the 3rd of January 2022. I’m not sure if it comes in two separate packages but I have no instructions and no hardware to put it together. Hope to hear from dhp soon.Update. So I contacted their customer support they took care of my missing hardware situation no problem. Just had to verify that I purchased their product. A few days later I received the hardware. The hardware looks like it’s been sitting in a warehouse for a while and none of the bolts were in the packaging itself the hardware ended up being in the envelope that the hardware was shipped in you’ll see in the pictures. Luckily nothing fell out of the hole that was in the package. There were 4 missing screws luckily in the spares it had four. It’s pretty easy to assemble with the instructions given. Overall the product is sturdy not the sturdiest but it’s sturdy and it held me just fine as I tested it. Customer services is decent. I just don’t understand the missing hardware and what was sent could have been better. I guess that’s what you get for going for a cheaper price.

MehEasy to put together, but even with everything tightened as much as possible it didn’t seem very sturdy

Decent bed frame for the pricePurchased this for my 13 year old daughter, as she wanted more space in her bedroom and this included a desk. Arrived quickly and without major damage. Was relatively easy to assemble, on par with similar categories of tube steel furniture. It’s shaky and creaky like I would expect based on the construction, but it doesn’t feel like it’s going to break. Actually works to my advantage because I can shake it hard enough to wake the child up when she oversleeps. The desk is sturdy, although it could be just a little deeper. It is deep enough to accommodate a monitor, keyboard, and mouse for a computer though, and a laptop would also fit with a little room in front. My only real complaint was the ladder is made from 1″ square tube, which is really hard on the feet. I ended up cutting sections of 1×6 to length, then cutting notches in the ends to fit over the vertical tubes to make the ladder more comfortable.Overall, can’t beat it for the price if your expectations are appropriate and you have the knowledge and tools to correct the horrible ladder design.

Easy assembly, affordable solution…but this bed will not stop SQUEAKING!!!The bed was easy to assemble. My 11-year old daughter and I were able to complete the entire process without assistance. There were no missing parts, and we were able to reverse the sides and put the ladder on the opposite side of the bed. We were thankful to find an affordable solution for a bunk bed.The futon is a bit of a challenge to fold and unfold, but it does stay in place after each transition… although the handles fall off every time, which is frustrating. We don’t fold and unfold the lower bunk on a regular basis, because of this hassle. We adapt. My biggest complaint, and one not to be overlooked: this bed SQUEAKS terribly! Every time my 80 pound son turns over or moves his legs, the bed squeaks. We have a cat that weighs about 10 pounds, and the bed squeaks, even when the cat jumps on or off the top bunk. It squeaked on day one, and now that we have had the bed for over 3 months, it still squeaks… we have become more accustomed to it, but I am still looking forward to the day when we can afford to replace these squeaky bunk beds! All bolts have been tightened, and several of them have just enough traction to hold the parts together (as I considered placing something between the metal parts that are rubbing together). I have been unable to isolate the joints where the squeaking occurs, as it seems to be coming from the whole frame. Infuriating! We also purchased another style from DHP, and it has the same squeaky problem. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TPJI8UQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It is a very annoying flaw, both to the children who are trying to sleep, and to the rest of the household (although it does act as a sort of bed alarm, giving some warning when the kids are getting out of bed… you begin to recognize the squeaking patterns of ladder use or merely flipping over, while reading in bed).

Totally works, modern look. Can you spot the movie reference in the review?I like it. SWMBO decreed we have something for the kids to sit on in the basement and her visiting friend somewhere to sleep. Enter Amazon, Prime and my cellphone and this thing arrived a few days later.I estimated 1.5-2 hours to put together including the use of a power drill for all the bolts and it ended up taking almost three. Tedious would be the word I would use. Not terribly difficult, just tedious. For example, the support for the mattress and both bottom pieces have like 24 vertical bars that each require 2 little plastic tabs pressed in with your fingers. It’s tedious. That said, I can’t imagine moving and taking it with me. Nah that’s a lie, once the support slats go in I think it would break down pretty easily. Passing the supports onto the consumer probably saves some sweatshop like 48c per unit though so I do feel bad taking jobs from the hardworking indigenous people of wherever. It’s reversible if you want. Assemble with the ladder where you want and put the “LEFT” futon bracket on the side with the ladder. It’s easy to go from couch to bed provided you remember there’s a lock keeping the couch from inadvertently switching to bed…15 minutes later…It does wobble a bit. It really does need some cross bracing in the back, but kids bounce so if anything crazy did happen I’m sure they’d be fine.tl;drIt’s a hit. Couldn’t imagine putting it together with the provided tools though.

  9. Kimarino

DisappointedDisappointed. It was delivered with all the pieces not wrapped or protected. It had all these dents in the bed and desk. Is not sturdy! Not recommended for older kids, it shakes when getting in or moving around at all.

  10. Katilynn

I was really surprised that the mattresses fit perfect! I am a Tempur Pedic gal so I …Ordered this Bunk Bed in Gray for my Son and his 7 year old son for week end stays. I shopped many stores in person and online prior to making this purchase. I saw many that were too flimsy and small diameter of metal rods to make the bed structure. Some had very little support in the top bunk for the mattress support also. I also noticed a lot of the beds bracing was very very limited and thin on the sides where the bed connected. Which made the bed wable more. The bed and mattresses arrived promptly.About an hour of set-up time.I also ordered the black queen 8″ Futon mattress and the black 6″ Signature Sleep twin mattress. I was really surprised that the mattresses fit perfect! I am a Tempur Pedic gal so I was a little bit concerned about the feel and quality of the mattresses for the price, but I took a chance. I use regular twin mattress pad and sheets for the bunk and queen pad and sheets for the futon. My Son said he has really slept well on the Futon and my 7 year old grandson loves the bunk. There is a little wobble in the bed when you go up the ladder but nothing that is concerning. The height of our ceiling also in this room is 8′ so you will need to be sure that you have a place to fit the bed that will have clearance of an overhead light or ceiling fan. Hope this helps.
