All Wood, Not Particle BoardOur granddaughter turned 2 last August, and we purchased this toy box as a gift. Because it’s going to sit out in their family room, we wanted something that was all wood and finished nicely. This was even better than we expected. Very nice wood. Unfinished, so you can paint it or stain it, but we left it natural. It’s beautiful. Not difficult to assemble at all. The top stays open when you open it. You can even sit on it when it’s closed. Would buy it again for another grandchild.

lid assembly could have used more attentionOverall if you use the instructions you get a decent fairly sturdy feeling chest but the lid assembly needed a little more care on the part of the manufacturer. It comes with little guide pilot holes for where to put the screws for the lid but they don’t all line up and when it’s assembled the one side still rubs and will need to be sanded down because that will be easier than trying to adjust the screws. If you have a better understanding of woodworking and measuring how a lid should be placed you probably would have no problem with this as a project and as a painting canvas it was really fun and turned out well but it needed a little more attention to detail before it left the shop

Solid wood, lousy assemblyBought this and painted it for a Christmas present. It held the paint well! The wood is solid and not fall aparticle board. Even the bottom included 2 supports to strengthen to bottom from falling out. The 2 resistance latches work great to keep the lid from slamming! My only complaint is the predrilled holes did not properly line up for the hardware. I had to loosen some hinge screws to get the lid to line up evenly. The predrilled holes for the resistance latches did not line up at all. I would recommend this for purchase, just keep these points in mind when assembling.

I’d buy it again! This is a beautiful toy box and exactly what I was looking for for my son’s room! I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because while this was VERY easy to assemble, the hinges included did not line up with all the pre drilled holes. This didn’t end up being a big deal. We just lined the hinges up with some of the holes and screwed the rest in wherever we needed to. The hinges ended up being really tight, but at least I don’t have to worry about my son smashing his finger in the lid. It stays open without you having to hold it. I’d buy again!

Be sure to check for flaws before finishing! This was the third chest we purchased to put together for each of our grandchildren. The first one was wonderful and had no flaws. The second one had a crack in the wood, fortunately in an inconspicuous spot and because we often work with wood were able to fix it. The third one had two broken dowel pins which we had to remove and replace. If a person plans to stain and finish the wood it does finish very nicely but I recommend making sure to sand down really well first to remove any residual oils and glue, We are happy with the end result of all three, just wish we didn’t have to fix them first.

HINGES ARE VERY STIFFQuality piece of furniture. Also have the 5 drawer lingerie cabinet which was much easier to assemble than the trunk. The bottom panel was slightly off and does not fit as well as it should but is doable since the support pieces are in place. But the biggest problem I have is the hinge supports. I cannot get them to fir within of the hole marks. They are inflexible, very stiff and cannot bend to accommodate. I have spent two days trying everything to fit the hinge brackets and nothing is working. How can they do what hey are supposed to do if they have no flexibility? Since so many have put this trunk together with out having this issue, can someone tell me what I am missing or is it possible the hinges are defective? Without the hinges, the top easily falls and is very heavy and will give someone a concussion if the top cannot be propped. This is the only reason for the 3 stars. Love the trunk but I need to get the hinges in place. Thanks.

Not perfect, but a good purchaseI am submitting the same review for both the 29″ and the 47″ storagechests. They are exactly the same design and construction except for thelength of the left-to-right pieces. Both chests arrived on time and in good condition. All the parts werethere. They were easy to assemble. The only problem is with lid of the47″ chest. Either it is warped, or the holes for mounting the hinges arenot quite in the correct place. When closed, the left side of this lidsits about one half-inch off the stop on which it should rest. You reallydon’t notice it until you sit on it. Then you get a “clunk” as it makescontact with the stop.

Worth the difficult assembly.Definitely a 2 person assembly job. Those safety hinges were a beast to get right.
