If you are worried about smell, please do a shade for a day in a well-ventilated place. I think whether it will not bother you to some extent although it does not completely disappear. |

Washing Instructions & MaintenancePlease wipe off dust powder with a dry towel or soft cloth along the seam before use, then clean the surface of mat with the wet towel, and dry it in a ventilated place. Do not exposed to the sun. Avoid Direct Sunlight Please avoid it directly exposed by the sun. Sun exposure can easily tend to cause the problem of grassy yellowing, aging, breakage etc., and loss of the primary color of the rush mat, which will affect the appearance and shorten the service life. Durable, works great, smells niceNot much to say, works as a great base for the futon I also purchased. I really like the smell of rush grass apparently as well.Easy to fold up and get it out of the way when I start my day, and easy to set up when it’s time to go to bed.

It is what is: A grass matI have no benchmark to compare this to because it’s my first tatami mat. However, it is sturdy and arrived in a clean state. It does have a strong thrush odor but within a few weeks it diminished.I’ve been using it for sleeping most nights with two shikibutons on top. Every morning I pick the mattresses and mat up from the floor. So far no issues with mold with this routine.

Looks and feels so goodMat came in on time, definitely did have the damp grass smell so give it time to air out. Once fully dried there was no smell at all. Thick and sturdy, the stitching surrounding and connecting the sections are thick with no fraying. Super happy and would love more.

Great for my futon which I didn’t want to lay directly on the apartment carpet. Works great as a yoga mat/hangout spot during the day when the futon is folded up. The smell is also really nice.

Don’t let the reviews scare youThe smell is natural, most of it fades away quickly, get over it. This is a natural grass with a simple backing. It’s comfortable to sit on, to place a shikibuon (futon). In my home it takes the place of a kitchen “table” and is where we sit on our cushions to eat and chat.

What a Great product, from shipping to applicationAs far as shipping this item comes packed, packed, and packed again. The vendor has the item double packaged and within very large shipping ‘bag’. They also have Amazon build a custom box for the item as well. A ton of packaging material but it’s worth it to make sure the product is not damaged.Very pleased with this mat (Full), I have been sleeping on a Shikifuton for many years. After 10 years I needed to update everything ditch my old futon and order a new one. I decided to also get a mat, I definitely was hesitant at first many other options available outside of Amazon have higher pricing. I decided to take the leap and do not regret it at all. I slept on it for a few weeks even without a futon and it’s quite comfortable if you can sleep anywhere like myself.My past futons have always had a natural smell, mainly because they have been made with natural/raw materials. I am very used to the ‘natural’ smell that the rush grass gives off on this mat. It’s quite potent for individuals that may not be used to it. If it’s strong, let it air out, but it’s going to smell like rush grass for a while it’s just what it is.The last thing to note that it is coated with anti-moister powder, I took a damp cloth and wiped most of the topcoat off along with a dry cloth as I worked through the mat. This did the trick and allows darker fabrics to not be covered in that powder and to keep enough of the powder within the mat.

Great workmanship and convenient design!!!Very well made. I looked at several other choices and seen some pretty bad workmanship for the price. This is kind of expensive considering it’s made from grass, however this mat is well constructed and will last a few years with proper maintenance.I didn’t bother airing mine out after cleaning it up because I happen to love the smell. Im using a twin xl shikibuton with this queen size mat and it fits great with enough of the mat protruding to give it some eastern aesthetic. As far as comfort goes, I’m 5’11” and 245lbs, and I’m loving it. I fell asleep so fast last night. My son actually came in and slept on only the grass mat. Didn’t even notice him until i got up this morning. He didn’t have any complaints either and now he doesn’t want his loft bed 😤[A few months later]I’ve got an extra inch back on my height. My posture has improved dramatically. I don’t feel groggy when i wake up or wake up as frequently. The firmer surface has been good to me. All my friends think it’s badass too because we can all sit on it. I can clear it to make space for jamming. It looks cool. I was a little uncertain at first because it’s kind of a lot for something made of grass and cloth, but it’s cheaper than a nice frame and fits my space. Very happy with my purchase.

Definitely Worth the InvestmentThis is the tatami mat to buy. I initially ordered one from another company from Japan on Amazon, and it never arrived. I chose this one as a second choice, and now think it was providence. Quality, construction and aesthetics way better than I expected, and fits perfectly under my queen-size shikibuton.A friend in East Asia suggessted I start sleeping on a combination of a tatami mat and shikibuton after explaining I slept better when I am tent camping. I have been using this tatami mat with a shikibuton for a couple of months. This is the first time I have been able to sleep through the night, in the last 14 years, without awaking up multiple times throughout the night, because my hips and back have seized up as a result of an accident.If you are looking for a quality constructed tatami mat that looks good and is firm, definitely purchase this one.
