Much needed peace of mind!! actually 100% breathable!I just had baby #3 and decided to treat her to a new mattress. I had heard of the Newton Baby Crib Mattress but was a bit skeptical of its differences / uniqueness. Now that its here, I had to write to say that the Newton mattress really does make a difference!! It’s just as comfortable as my former plush mattress but 100% breathable. I was in the unique position of being able to compare the two so I literally buried my nose in each: I could breathe like normal when pressed against the Newton waterproof mattress but when I switched to the old mattress with its waterproof cover I literally could not take a breath! I am amazed and now cannot imagine my baby sleeping on the old one! Also, the Newton mattress material seems much more durable and will likely not get tattered and torn like my other mattress did when it got caught on the crib mattress frame. I have not had to wash any of the Newton parts but the instructions on how to clean each component also gives me peace of mind in case I ever have to which is nice because when my last mattress got peed on when it soaked through the cover I literally had no idea what to do and was grossed out at not being able to clean it.

I’m so happy, I could cry! Buy this!Our 5 month old has learned to roll over and now only sleeps on her side and tummy. Many times, she ends up face down in the mattress, which absolutely terrifies mom and dad. We haven’t had a good night’s sleep in weeks because we are so on-alert and scared of SIDS. Then my wife did some research and found this mattress. The reviews gave us hope that this could be the solution, so here I am paying it forward. Amazon predicted the mattress wouldn’t be delivered for another few days, but I was so excited to see it arrive at 6am this morning. I hurried downstairs, retrieved the package, and the first thing I did was bury my face in it and breathe. A tear came to my eye because I could literally breathe as if there was no material there at all. I then compared to our baby’s existing mattress. At best, it was stale air and a clear suffocation hazard. The trick in testing the breathability seemed to be forming a barrier over the material with my mouth and breathing in. I immediately woke my baby up and switched the mattresses. I get it that we haven’t had this thing for more than 30 minutes, but it gets 5 stars and a whole lot of confidence from me.

Best choice for safetyGood vs bad. This is a very peace of mind mattress. It is not soft but it is not intended to be soft, it is intended for safety. It comes with a mattress cover. My complaint is…. my baby is now one and for the first time he leaked through his diaper. I had to wash the cover. The zipper completely ripped in half and now I can’t zip the cover onto the mattress. The top and bottom cannot be zipped together anymore. It is being held onto the mattress by the sheet. Given what I paid for this mattress- this should not happen. This happened with ONE wash. This cover should be more durable.

You can actually breathe through this thing!I have to confess, I’m a neurotic first time parent. So I went to a store so I could see how breathable these things really are. All of them say they’re breathable now, but it seemed like none of them really are, except this Newton mattress. it’s just totally different than all the other ones, especially versus the other expensive ones. The other deciding factors were of course that it’s washable, but more importantly one side is waterproof so I won’t have to buy a separate waterproof mattress pad when we start potty training. Which makes the all-in cost a lot more reasonable, especially because I can reuse this one for future kids since it’s washable. And the last reason I bought it is because it’s greenguard gold certified. Definitely happy that there’s no off-gassing or weird smells.And on the aesthetic side, even though a crib sheet isn’t necessary, the Newton sheets come in beautiful designs to add to the functionality of the purchase.

Newton is expensive but totally worth it for peace of mind and love its made in USA!I was initially hesitant to spend so much on a crib mattress. Def didn’t see how one could be so diferent from the others. But I saw a video where they cut a couple different ones open and was so impressed with the way Newton is made vs the others. Newton’s inside looks like a sponge with a ton of air in between the fibers–just looking at it you know it’s more breathable than the other ones that are sealed airtight in plastic. And even though it’s not organic, being breathable seemed more important to me. The cover is pretty nice too–but I love the fact that the core is made in the US and GreenGuard Gold certified, so I know there’s nothing toxic in the thing my baby is spending so much time sleeping on.

Worth every penny!!We had previously bought a good rated baby bed off Amazon and we instantly were not pleased. It said firm but instantly out little 10lber sank in it. So we bought this and have been very pleased. It’s very firm and we both put our faces into the mattress and could breath through it, not amazing but could, so that brought us comfort in knowing our baby could breath if face down. We’ve had the bed almost 3 months and no complaints at all. It’s firm and we feel very comfortable knowing our son is safe on this bed. It’s expensive but if you’re to invest in a long term bed that will last for years you have to spend money, so it’s worth every penny.

So so.The mattress is great until you put a sheet on it. Then it’s no longer breathable.
