Good solid chest. More on the brown vs red side though.For the price, I am pretty impressed with this chest. It is very solid, and it looks beautiful!On reading a few reviews I was concerned about a couple things:Assembly – for me assembly was fairly straight forward. I am not hugely talented in this area, but the instructions were pretty clear and all the parts were there. The worst part for me was the bottom as that was a little tricky for one person to put together, but I managed. The top you need a second to hold while you score the hinges in. It took me about an hour to put together largely by myself. I am not sure why a few people reviewed it as impossible to put together.Quality – Some mentioned the quality was cheap. I just don’t see it. This thing is solid and heavy (not ridiculously heavy, but it has good weight to it). Yes the cedar is only on the bottom, but you can easily line it with cedar if you wanted more. For this price, the quality is much better than I expected.My only complaint is that the pictures show more a reddish color. This is actually more of a brownish color with a slight reddish tint. For me, I need to get it a bit redder to match my furniture. If I can do it, it will be perfect!The dimensions in the description are wrong – it is a bit bigger than I expected, so again, surprised that people said it was small.

Beautiful Product but Beware!Sturdiness very heavy and pretty. However, Would not buy again or recommend to anyone due damaged paint and chipped wood. Too heavy for mail order. Buy it directly from a furniture store to ensure good condition. I will add a photo tomorrow when the cherry wood cedar chest is all put together. It is a beautiful cedar chest but I would not recommend buying thru Amazon mail order. Go directly to the store and have them deliver so that if damaged when delivered to your home the company can return it back to the store. Chest to heavy for mail delivery. Don’t waste your money or time. Don’t want to go thru the hassle of returning heavy item. My husband will sand wood and paint where the chest was damaged.

Almost perfectThis is a very nice looking cedar chest, although the only cedar is in the floor. Most of the assembly was easy enough, until I got to the lid. When hinges were attached to the lid and then the lid set down onto the rear wall of the chest none of the holes lined up. I had to drill new holes. That was easy, the existing holes were covered by the hinge so not visible. Then came the spring openers. They are entirely toooooo stiff for the weight of this lid. I installed as the instructions say to do, and when I went to lower the lid the screws ripped out of the “wood”. After I removed the hinges, installed slightly larger screws of similar appearance and removed the openers it is assembled and works well. I have tried to work the opener mechanisms and they just won’t budge, so using the chest without them. My suggestion, do not install them, just make sure the chest is located where the lid can’t flop back and break away from the box, or obtain and install an appropriate device, there are many options out there.

Beautiful chest, a bit difficult to put together.This is a beautiful chest. It was a gift for my wife and she is very happy with it. It was quite a project to put together and the pictorial directions are confusing in places. Be sure you get the hinges on correctly. Some of the screws were difficult to start and it is necessary to be very careful in getting all the parts in the correct order. But all the parts were in the box and all major pieces were in excellent condition. The finished product is well worth the effort.

Cedar chest was damaged at bottom trim area.Using in bedroom area to store bed linens. Cedar chest was damaged at bottom trim area with approximately a12 inch piece of wood split off it. Submitting pictures to support evidence of damage. Any assistants in a ‘CREDIT’ for the damage cedar chest would be greatly appreciated.

Once you get a good one it’s greatHad to return a couple because the factory had left some weird machine trail in the finish in a couple spots, but once I returned 2 (!!!) I got a good one and it’s a great piece of solid wood furniture if you’re willing to put in the time and frustration to keep sending them back. I paid $174 for it so don’t buy it for more in case the price drops again! I have a ton of blankets stored in mine, and I’m honestly thinking about getting another to maybe keep some household tools in because it’s so nice!

Otherwise this chest is an excellent value for the moneyI am still waiting for replacement parts. Otherwise this chest is an excellent value for the money. The pieces of wood are heavy and solid and when put together the chest is as solid as a rock. The finish is excellent and the color is as advertised. When I tried to attach the legs they all would not screw in to the bottom panel so I requested a replacement part. I waited 10 days and then called to find out if the part had been shipped. The company had no record of my request, and the woman who took my order didn’t remember me nor did she give me an order number. However, there is a 30 day window for requesting parts and they accepted another order. If the 30 day time limit had passed I may have had a real problem because after 30 days free replacement parts are not sent and will not even be sold to anyone. This policy is clearly stated in their manual.
