In 1934, Erie Sauder started a woodworking business in a barn behind his home in Archbold, Ohio. Originally a builder of custom cabinetry and church pews, he began crafting small occasional tables from the fine, leftover wood. In 1940, the workmanship of these tables eventually inspired a traveling salesman to place an astounding order of 25,000 — a seemingly impossible purchase order for a budding company. But with a little ingenuity and a lot of determination, Sauder Woodworking grew and flourished.

Value for moneyI was shopping around for ages looking for book shelves that wouldn’t break the bank but would also do their job. These are great looking, and very sturdy, its not incredibly difficult to put together with basic tools and I think a customer review that suggest adding some 1 inch thick boards for support is an excellent suggestion if you need it, we planned on adding those since we needed to load it down with hardcover books but two weeks after the build I have yet to see a reason or need to reinforce the shelving. I’m a competent wood worker, however I have no reason to build anything at this price point. I went with the Chalked Chestnut finish because we have a white distressed farmhouse style TV stand and it matched almost like it was built as a set. I am impressed enough in this company I am now looking at their other offerings to see what else I can use. This is our starter home and this stuff works great, so if you’re on the fence at all I hope this review helps you.

Great shelf for the cost.Sauder shelves are made well for the press board kit type furniture. The instructions are easy to follow and these shelves even add an front 1×2 to add support to the shelves. I have had one of these for almost 12 years and the shelves are still straight with no bends. Worth the money

Looks good but a pain to assemble and stability an issueLooks good, but the assembly is tricky and it lacks long pieces that would add stability opting to ship more cheaply by removing long boards that were previously included. This leads to a stack up design which is problematic. Still when all is said and done the book self looks great once completed and filledWith books, etc.

The Cherry is not cherry it is more a dark walnutDid not notice they have two cherry colors the one I got is more like dark walnut does not match my other furniture but it is very good quality and will just use another room. The person who wrote the directions has a sense of humor.

Best looking cheap bookshelvesI’ve put together a million Ikea bookshelves. I know cheap bookshelves. These are about equal to IKEA’s cheapest bookshelves, maybe a little sturdier than that. They’re also a real pain to put together, even compared to Ikea.BUT THIS IS A FIVE STAR REVIEW! I’m giving five stars because these are absolutely great looking shelves, and they’re a good value for the money. If you wanted solid wood shelves you wouldn’t be reading this review. The cardboard backing looks awful but you won’t see that when the shelves are full of books. This is one of the best furniture buys I’ve ever made on Amazon, I like these better than anything else I’ve ever seen at this price point.

Good bookshelfI’ve had it a few years and it’s still holding up. Shelves haven’t bowed or anything. It’s attached to the wall but I’ve never noticed it try to wobble and I live in an old house with crooked floors lol. And it just looks nice it’s definitely a step above the normal put together yourself one

Very good buy for the price.I’m an 85 yo woman. I assembled it without assistance. It is sturdy for a manufactured product. Not as sturdy as natural wood. I do not like the cardboard back. I secured it to the wall for stability. Without being secured it looked as though it could fall. It is beautiful against the wall.

Not as stable as I hopedSo it holds books like its suposed to. It was delivered with slight damage nothing too serious but enough to notice. the stability is very poor. The entire top half wobbles if weight is not evenly distributed or if you put any presure on it. I remcomend bolting it down if you have any kids or pets because it is very likely to fall
