cracked item from shippingshipping package damaged. Lower shelf is cracked.Contacted customer service and they refunded the item for me and told me to keep the damaged item. This was by far the best possible outcome. I can’t complain. The upper shelves are still usable and it didn’t cost me anything.

Poor qualityThe material is partial board with a cardboard backing. Not level, already peeling just out of the box. But it’s about what I’d expect for products these days, for anything at this price. Still a bit disappointed in the product. But the home assembly service was great.

HEAVY, and some assebly required. It’s a bookshelf that certainly takes some time to put together, and that’s okay, but don’t expect this to be as simple as your typical IKEA setup. Still, it’s not the most complicated thing to put together if you can follow instructions. However, one comment I must make about this product is just how HEAVY it is. I’ve already thrown away the box, but I feel like the package stated the weight was ~97 pounds (definitely in the 90-100 lb range). Moving it from my doorstep to my living room and subsequent room wasn’t “terrible”, but having someone else around to help with the lifting is certainly advisable. This isn’t too big a deal when assembling the bookshelf, but it can become a bit hairy when it comes time to stand it up wherever you’re placing it, and I also highly recommend using the wall attachment it comes with as this thing falling over with nothing else on it is definitely going to injure somebody. The weight does mean it feels very sturdy, and will last some time, though don’t be mislead into thinking this bookshelf is solid wood. Some parts of it are solid wood (the sides that hold the shelves), but the majority of it is compressed woodchips that is supposed to be recycled wood. I like the idea of the recycled wood, but I also greatly love solid wood products, though I didn’t want to spend the money for one, so here we are. That’s to say, I’m not complaining about the compressed woodchip material of the bookshelf, just letting you know it’s something to be aware of.Otherwise, it’s a bookshelf that functions great for what I wanted of a bookshelf, and that’s to be a place to hold books and other objects I have lying around my place.I hope this helps you out in your purchasing decision.

I LOVE IT !!!I absolutely love this Bookcase. It is absolutely beautiful, and the color is very simular to my other furniture pieces, but not the exact same color. That is one of the reasons that I fell in love with it. I needed a little something that was a little off-set in color, and this piece does it perfectly. So thankful that I am now the proud owner of this beautiful piece of furniture.

Amazing Customer ServiceI purchased 2 bookcases knowing that for the price, I was getting particle board but I’m very impressed with the finish and the size of them. One of the legs was cracked so I went onto their website, and easily ordered a replacement on a Saturday. It was delivered to my house the following Friday. Very impressed with Sauder’s customer service!

Doesn’t Block VentI bought the off-the-floor book shelf so it wouldn’t block the vent. It is high enough so the vent has airflow. The color is beautiful, but the quality is particle board and I can still see the gaps where some of the pieces were put together.Assembly was moderate difficulty for a single, fit person. The shelf does what is intended to do so I don’t have complaints for that. However when I was putting the shelf together there were two issues I had with it: First, the “molding”. Part K and H did not fit together properly. To even get the molding to hold, one of the pieces broke and it still is not snug or flush with the wood. Second was the cardboard backing. The nail holes for shelf E did not go all the way through, so I had to make those marks myself on the unfinished side or else I would have no idea where to put the nails. Other than those two things, assembly was fine.

Tough but worth itThis shelf is no joke. It is crazy hard to put together. Blood, sweat, and tears went into it. A corner was slightly damaged but it’s not noticeable. The back piece takes close to 70 nails to be put on properly and they didn’t send me enough nails but it didn’t really make a difference. Hard to build but well worth it.

Phone a friend for help…I bought this bookshelf without reading the reviews, based only on looks and how many stars I saw.I’m happy with this purchase but have some comments.First of all, when I got home from work and saw it sitting in front of the door. I knew it was heavy. And when I kicked it and it didn’t moved a centimeter, I knew I would need help. I also knew that whoever dropped it off probably called me out my name a few times as the box is not marked heavy, nor does it recommend a 2 man lift. Please be careful. In addition, I left the back off for an open bookcase. The back is cardboard while the entire rest of the bookcase is wood. Wood wood, yes.Putting the back on would make this sturdy bookcase even sturdier, however, I didn’t want to nail into the finish.Also….the instructions were a nightmare and I had to phone a friend so we could discuss, debate, and rotate. In the end, it looks great, I would by another, but I’m afraid the delivery guy will curse me.

Great color functionality.I ordered 3 of the bookcases in the Craftsmen Oak Finish, truly realistic looking! I had no missing parts, no broken pieces and super clear instructions for putting together. Had them together in about 3 hours, after you do one the others are easy. And I’m a 5′ 112 lb. woman. If I can do….anyone can. AND MADE IN THE U.S.A. ( and very important, follow instructions when it says time for nachos….)
