You get what you pay for.So overall this bookshelf does the job well enough. The quality is what you would expect from a $200 shelf. Mine arrived on time, but had several damaged parts (the side pieces were broken in half, shelves split, etc). I emailed Sauder’s company explaining parts arrived broken, attached my amazon order number, and they had new parts sent to me within 5 days for free which was greatly appreciated.After the new parts arrived I began putting it together, which by myself took about an hour. Most of that time was making sure my sides were level and balanced. It seems to hold books and other items well, I have several large, legal textbooks, binders, and files on the shelves, as well as some trophies and framed documents, and the shelves seem to be holding up fine. Is this the best bookshelf out there? Certainly not, and I wouldn’t push the recommended weight for the shelves (25-35 lbs or 12-15kg). Do you get what you’d expect from this price range? Certainly.Overall I’d give this a 4/5 stars, it is easy to assemble by yourself, it arrived in a timely manner, Sauder was very pleasant to work with for getting new parts, and it looks nice. Sturdiness could be better, but for a $200 shelf it does the job well.

Worth the price…I ordered this item for our living room, and after reading the reviews was a little concerned about it, but it was in the price range I wanted, was the color I needed, and the size I wanted.It arrived 3 days after ordering and was delivered to the wrong door, so I had to carry it in, across my house to the other area that is directly next to my front door (where I had expected it to be delivered). Be warned it weighs A LOT. It was hard to move, and aside from a smashed toe, it made it to my desired location.I laid out the parts and got started. It took me about 10 minutes to find tools, and then only about an hour to assemble. I found the directions simple, and easy to follow. There is a section that is easier with two people, so I enlisted my 9 year-old son to help me align the holes/units.After assembly, I found out that side B was broken. I should have looked at it a bit closer, but a quick call to Sauder, and they sent a replacement that arrived 24 hours from shipping. I was able to take it apart and put the piece in with no problems and it took me less than 10 minutes.I love this unit. It fits perfectly in my living room, is nice and simple, nothing fancy. It holds a TON of books, and looks nice. I love the simple clean lines and adjustable shelves. Having an area under it to “hide away” things is great too!The top piece is not finished on the back and because the unit isn’t “flush” against the wall because of trim, it shows on the side. I did also find that the doors rub a bit, and don’t seem to really adjust.Overall, for the price, it doesn’t really get any better. I have no real complaints, and would buy another if we had the space.

Nicely made and substantial.I needed 2 bookcases to fit into an area by windows in a sewing/craft room so the size was critical. These bookshelves will store sewing and craft supplies and a few books. I also wanted doors and open shelving plus a dark color. Even went to furniture stores and came back with nothing. I’ve had positive experience with Sauder products and these bookcases hit all the items on my punch list. These are substantial in size and not flimsy. I wanted to make sure the shelves did not bow from the weight of books, etc. Recommend you read through all assembly instructions and understand how the various pieces will fit together first. All items required for assembly were included and all pieces were in great shape. I noticed the seller placed cardboard along the exterior sides and top/bottom of the packages to help prevent damage…and it works. Yes, the back of the bookcase is that flimsy cardboard stuff with 2 vertical folds (hey, pretend it is almost beadboard). Either fill up the shelves and cover up the back piece OR go through the effort of buying some plywood, painting/staining, etc and put in a nice finished plywood backing. The finish is very nice and complements the other dark pieces I have. Nice knobs on the doors. Everything feels substantial and well designed. Other reviewers have commented the holes for the shelf supports are kind of noticeable. They are, but I’m going to follow the suggestion of another reviewer and find a black magic marker to color the openings. The Estate Black color is a black with brown tones…so not a true black. But that is what I wanted. The style would blend with any number of other furniture styles as it is not ornate, but does have a bit of detail.

PERFECT- With a few upgradesThis is a pretty great hutch for small spaces. The back is cardboard as others have mentioned, which is why it on its own is not too sturdy. However, I bought unfinished snap together wall paneling, cut it to fit the back top to bottom, and stained it. Doing this made the hutch VERY sturdy and look more expensive than it costs. I also used a dark stain to fill in the shelving holes that I didn’t use so they don’t show so easily. All in all, I am super happy with how this turned out.

Very nice for the priceI was able to put it together by myself in about 40 minutes (that was with an occasional household interruption). I gave it a 4 on sturdiness because the backing is just that flat cardboard type of material you tack into place and they have a slight wobble even when full with books. Overall, I like them. Getting 2 I was able to finish my home office.

Great quality, make sure to read the instructions!The bookshelf is great, It is exactly what is described. I wanted a three piece set: credenza, desk and bookshelf. This set cost me a little under 800 and was shipped for FREE. Everyone is spot on, the box weighs a ton. It is like REALLY nice IKEA furniture, I wanted to see my desk capabilities so I stood on it, right in its weakest point. I know this sounds unconventional, but I want to know that it will support a lot of weight. The instructions are mostly pictures but you have to read each step, it isn’t complex, but because you are reading this review, I trust that you can assemble this. They gave me lots of extra screws and pieces, but everything worked. I screwed through the top of the desk, I called and spoke with a guy named Greg and they shipped me a brand new one… I messed it up, and they said that they cover assembly mishaps for free, with free shipping. Seems like a great company and it is a great product. The three pieces fit nicely in an 11.5×11.5 room…and don’t skimp, get the executive desk…Oh and yes, it does take a while to assemble, not because it is difficult, just a lot of parts, one step may say, “screw in 80 of ____” or something like that.Bookshelf has a TON of nails on the backDesk has a TON of everythingCredenza has weird stabilization pieces…but not difficult

Looks great, easy set up, great service.So to start, when I got the bookcase unfortunately the 2 side panels of the book case were cracked in half, I couldn’t start building right away. I have read in the past with some of the manufacturers, there is so much trouble with returns/ refunds/ replacements. All I wanted was replacement parts so I followed the instructions that came with it, went to their website and ordered replacement pieces. It was an easy website and instruction to follow. In 2 days I received the replacements no hassle, it was great. (No Horror story here) It was really easy for me to build, of course I always expect to spend some time on it, especially since I usually do these things on my own, so no complaints. It took about the standard 2 hours I set aside when I have projects like this to do. (Oh and trust me I have dealt with much harder bookcases and tv stands to build, this was cake.) Once I was done I was very happy with the outcome, I was expecting an dark espresso color and got exactly that, matches the rest of the furniture in my living space. Overall, love the product and despite the little hiccup in the beginning, I’m very happy.

Like the style!Beautiful case!! We moved into a new house and my son wanted a bookcase for his study, he checked online and in different stores but nothing clicked until he found this bookcase at Amazon. This is the very first time we ordered something big online, without actually seeing it, but we took a chance and we are very happy that we did. It is a beautiful piece of furniture, it comes disassembled of course. Instructions are clear, it took less than an hour for my husband to put it together. Quality is not excellent but it is by no means cheap, I would say it is good quality and very stylish. Bottom half is not open which is great, you can put the stuff which you don’t want to be seen, in other words there’s room to keep your mess without it being seen!
