MUCH PRETTIER THAN A STANDARD FILING CABINETI have the desk, shelf, and lateral file in this set. They do take a LONG time to assemble (and my husband is good at this stuff. Be careful with the wood because it can scratch easy. I am easy on my stuff – but we had to buy stain which was super easy to apply and made look like new. I live at my desk at home so its well used, along with this. It has area on top where I have printer and paperwork and knick knacks. The inside top has very nice storage where I have writing paper, printer paper, printer ink, etc etc etc. The bottom has 2 file drawer areas which I have a TON of files in. It holds alot. I highly recommend this set – just know it will take assembly and you may need stain in the future. I would have preferred it to come in gray would be my only suggestion as espresso is so dated in my opinion.

Overall – a great piece… Just be careful of chips!I would love to give this item 5 stars – but my product was chipped in a couple spots, one which was very noticeable. However, this is a ‘beast’ of a heavy item – I was not going to try to repackage and ship back. I was hopeful that I could hide/disguise the chips, but one is in front corner on the top — kinda sad…MY complaints aside… the product itself is great. VERY Heavy duty – honestly much heavier than I anticipated (oh and check the measurements it was a tad bigger than I’d expected, but that’s what you get when you don’t measure first)… KEY NOTE – top of cabinet is not a drawer it’s two doors that open to a big storage space. I knew that, so it didn’t surprise me – it is perfect for my purpose. Now I have my printer ontop of the cabinet, my extra printer paper and cartridges in the top cabinet section, and the bottom (ONE!) drawer has all my files. Now that so much is digital we need less filing, but I still have a few things to file. This was the only cabinet I found that did NOT look like a filing cabinet but gave me opportunity for filing and other storage.I’ve read questions/reviews on other cabinets – so I d want to note that I would not use the bottom drawer for anything but files. I mean it might work – but nothing too heavy. The bottom of the drawer is like a piece of paneling – but there is a middle support (below the drawer) to firm it up a bit.oh and mine is a very dark brown… almost black, but not quite… a really nice color actuallyOVERALL, a really good piece of functional furniture… Just cross your fingers you have no dings.

Well put together and functionalI was a bit skeptical in purchasing this item because of the range of experiences on the ratings. I was nervous about the directions and shipment conditions due to ratings but went with it because I was looking for the horozontal file cabinet with the cabinet space up top.Product has a side by side horizontal file system on bottom and a center opening cabinet up top.The product arrived on time and the packaged was in decent shape. The box was pretty heavy. We carefully opened the packaged and there was no major damage. Yes there was some scratches on a couple of the panels but for the most part everything arrived in good shape. We exercised caution while assembling because it did seem easy to chip and scratch. The material was compressed board but pretty sturdy feeling. The directions and assembly were not perfect but overall not too bad. My dad, 8 year old and I put it together in less than 2 hours. Some of the boards were not labeled with stickers but soon noticed on the bare wood edge there were letters for most of the ones not labeled. Once assembled the piece felt well made and sturdy.I would recommend this product to others.

Sturdy, Beautiful, Roomy, and EfficientBeing organized gives me a “natural high”. I had numerous plastic tote filing systems and file boxes stored in several closets, which was organized, but not to my satisfaction. I was able to fit everything into this lateral filing cabinet, plus with the top cabinet, able to have easy access to home office items I use often. I have the cabinet in a small room I use as a sewing/craft room and home office. Both the sewing table and filing cabinet are Saunders. Both were, for me, easy to assemble (just follow step-by-step instructions). Hardest part was screwing hinges on while holding the cabinet doors-on both pieces of furniture. They are sturdy, attractive pieces of furniture. Top edge color does wear easily, with use; but I like the slightly distressed look. I imagine you could also touch up if you choose to. This is a rather heavy piece of furniture, and there is no fear of it tipping over, especially when filled with files. I’m very pleased with my purchase.

Heavy and arrived damagedWarning: this item when shipped to your home will be extremely heavy. And what is interesting to note is that it is made of particle-board, not solid wood. My husband and I put it together (at a leisurely pace) over about 2 hrs and are overall pleased with it for what we paid. Definitely don’t recommend paying full price for this. There were many scratches/chips/splits in the wood (probably because of shipping but still…it is very heavy to move!) We were able to position one of the upper doors so the major chip is not too noticeable, but still. For this price and the amount of work we put into it, the pieces should arrive near perfect. And did I mention it was heavy? It took two very strong men about 20 min to bring it up the stairs to our apartment and once the thing was set up, my husband and I struggled to move it into place. So, this leads me to another warning: make sure you assemble it in very close proximity to where you will keep it. Overall, I do sort of like it as it stores a lot of files in the drawer and large binders (laying on their sides) in the cabinets. The finish picks up fingerprints very well and the top surface easily becomes smudged. Not sure yet if I would purchase this again or not.

AwfulVery poorly made. Cheap materials. I used it for my files and nearly immediately it started to fall apart. 6 mos into it this is what it looks like now. Nothing stored ontop it either. I don’t understand if I used it for files and book storage why it fell apart. Very unhappy with this product. Spent alot of money for a pile of nothing!
