Good, solid piece of furniture.PLEASE NOTE: This review applies to all four pieces of furniture we purchased. This storage cabinet was an easier piece with less “issues” than two of the others we bought and put together. Ok…read on.First, this is fairly decent wood and material. There were some minor imperfections in the finish but I expected that with the “distressed” finish. The directions were OK but could use some improvement in identifying which is front, back, etc. Some pieces were marked left and right; but front and back would also be very helpful as I’ll mention later. And packaging was really good; we didn’t have any damage to any of the four pieces we purchased. From other reviews I read, I think we got lucky there.Now, on to the OK and some not so good stuff. My husband and I are pretty good at working together, following directions, and assembling things which need assembling. We purchased four pieces from Simpli Home. The first, an end table, went together like a breeze. Next, the coffee table was fairly simple but with two mishaps: we had a divider piece turned around, and the hardware provided was for a chest of drawers and not a coffee table. We were able to purchase the needed wooden dowels from a local hardware store and use most of the other provided hardware. Unfortunately, the knobs were incorrect so I’m waiting for their customer service to get back to me. Third came the storage cabinet which my husband assembled all by himself with no problems. Finally, this beast of an entertainment center. After hours of assembly by two fairly qualified persons, we have one jacked-up piece of furniture. We had to un-assemble it to turn around the middle section when we realized two pieces were backwards. After reassembly and putting the hardware on, we then realized the end sides were also facing the wrong way so the front doors on the ends can’t be mounted; the hinges won’t fit. Finally, the directions aren’t clear which way the bottom shelf of the flip-down section needs to be mounted; it looks like the side with the beveled out indentation for the hinges goes face up; but when we tried to mount the flip-up door, it’s way out of alignment. We’re not going to bother taking the whole thing apart just to turn around the two end pieces so we’re going to leave the ends open; we’ll make it work. We’re also going to take off the flip-down door and leave that open, too. So, bonus, we can use the knobs from these unusable pieces and mount them on the coffee table.If you’re interested in any of the furniture from this company and aren’t fully versed in assembly, I recommend you find the extra $$ and opt for the pre-assembly option.

Great Media Cabinet! (But get it assembled professionally)I read all the reviews before purchasing this cabinet and came to one distinct conclusion. Pay the extra dough to have it assembled for you. The assembly did look complicated and I get the impression that people are thinking it’s easy and fast. The Amazon professional did assemble it very fast, relatively speaking (I think it took him an hour, but I can’t remember for sure), but he obviously was a pro and knew what he was doing.Now onto the cabinet itself. I bought the grey finished cabinet to go with the decor of the house and noticed immediately that the wood itself appears darker in person than it does in the Amazon picture. The grey finish varies, as you would expect on wood, but it still was close enough in color that it did the job. The backing material however, is not wood and takes on an even darker tone (but it faces the wall, so it didn’t matter).Since it was assembled professionally, everything lined up and the cabinet doors swung perfectly, but it should be noted that the cabinet doors don’t meet perfectly flush in the middle. They are about 1/8-1/4 inch apart, and the middle divider piece shows underneath, but I think this is by design, so there is a little room for play between the cabinet doors. (My cabinet was completely aligned and square though).For those who are still unsure, this is NOT particle board/MDF, the bulk of it is solid wood (pine it looks like), so it has a much better build look to it. Pay close attention to the measurements that are already mentioned everywhere, mine was fine for the cable box, DVD player and Roku to be in and I had the specialist keep the center divider in the top portion in it, for better support of the top, but I could see where some Receivers might be a little large for the shelves and would have to go on top. There are holes pre-cut in the backing for cable management.Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. It is a great looking cabinet and although time will tell, it looks quite durable. Obviously it’s not a hand crafted wood piece, it’s still furniture you assemble, but it is a step above the usual quality of this kind of furniture and is worth getting. (Just pay to have it assembled!)

Actually, I give it 4 1/2 stars!I read all the reviews before making this purchase. I was looking for an entertainment center with shelves and glass doors. It took forever, but found this one, and I am extremely pleased. First, it arrived well packaged, and there was no internal damage. I counted the screws and pegs, etc and they not only were all there, but the individual plastic packages were numbered and they correspond with the great instructions, so you don’t have to figure out which size Phillips screw you need. The instructions were very clear. Many times when I put things like this together I have to take it apart several times because I didn’t use the right piece. That’s hard to do with this unit. Each piece has a marking: A, B, C, etc. I had one issue with a cam lock not wanting to tighten. Some people may already know the trick, but I didn’t. There is a faint arrow on the cam lock which has to point upward. Once you do that, the cam lock tightens easily. Some reviewers mentioned that there were no holes for the wires for things like DVD or Blu Ray players, but mine came with a hole drilled into each of the two section (see photo). The finished product is beautiful, well made and more expensive looking than many of the DYI pieces that you see in discount stores. So why didn’t it get a full five stars? The back panels have pre drilled holes and so does the unit so that the Phillips screws go in easily. Mine had missing holes in the unit itself. I could have drilled holes (and maybe I still will do that), but this was the only issue I had with the whole process. Don’t hesitate to purchase this product!

Definitely a Good BuyAfter a lot of searching, I chose this cabinet based on the reviews and looks. It arrived 3 days after ordering. I was concerned when I received the text that it had been delivered while I was not at home, should the shipping box be damaged upon arrival and possibly affect a return. When I returned home I found the box on my back deck showing no external damage. I chose to put it together the following morning while my husband was at work, so carried the parts into my home separately. All of the plastic bags with the hardware were labeled and contained the correct count. There was also a plastic bag of extra hardware. The cabinet pieces were also labeled and had no damage. While the directions recommended 2 people for ease of assembly, I have put quite a few items together and felt comfortable tackling this on my own. It took me 3 hours from start to finish. The directions were easy to read and understand, including pictures of the parts going together. A previous review commented on the cam locks and not understanding at first how to operate them. There aren’t clear directions for the cam locks, but I had used them in previous builds. As with other reviews there were a couple of drill holes that didn’t line up. This was the case on the doors with the hinges, but I was able to work around those and drilled new ones. The color was very close to the picture. One review mentioned a smell that went away within a few days. If you are used to finishing furniture, you will recognize the smell as varnish and it did dissipate within 24 hours.Since I purchased this cabinet for storing my stemware and other glassware, I did not install the Tipping Restraint Kit.I would definitely recommend this cabinet for the ease of putting it together and how beautiful it looked once finished. And for the money, it is well worth it.

Could be just a bit widerI bought this to hold my amp and 5 CD carousel changer (yes, I am that old). The divider in the open top section kept either component from fitting. By not installing the divider, which was not structural, made it plenty wide enough for one component, but not both. I mean it was within an eight of an inch from both components fitting. I looked online to find a smaller CD changer, but to no avail. All components have the same width. So by cutting the sides of the case off the changer I was able to get it to fit. It is so tight I couldn’t even get a piece of paper between the two. One more inch of width would have made it perfect. Two more inches of width and the divider would have also fit.

Great QualityVery pleased with the look and quality of the material. Love the fact it’s hard wood vs particle board. I bought it because it’s tall, the depth was narrow enough not to protrude into the room, and fits perfectly under the wall mounted 52″ TV. The glass in the doors is also quite thick and not flimsy. Great value for the money.UPDATE: I just read some of the 1-star reviews and it almost seems like I am looking at a totally different product than they are.1) As to poor packaging: Mine came in a very thick cardboard box, each piece wrapped in foam, and the box had stiff cardboard edge reinforcement corners on top, bottom and sides. I even commented to my wife while unpacking how well things were packaged.2) Poor instructions: Really? I thought the instructions were easy to read and had no issues following them.3) Parts labeling: OMG. Every one of my pieces had a white sticker with a letter that corresponded directly to the assembly instructions. The half dozen hardware pouches even were labeled.4) Cheap hardware: The only negative I can somewhat agree with is that the cam locks do break if they are not lined up properly with the pins and they are forced. I broke two, but they provided a small bag of extra parts, including cam locks. Great thinking ahead.Anyway, I just had to put in my two cents worth. 🙂

Overall pleasedAll in all, I was pleased and even a little impressed with this cabinet. It is a step-up in quality vs what I was expecting from most ready-to-assemble furniture.I’m not sure why some reviewers had so much trouble assembling this piece – I found it very easy & straightforward. As is the case with most RTA furniture, it is better to do the assembly with manual tools because a drill or impact driver can very easily strip and/or break some of the hardware.My only real complaint was several of the parts had minor damage in the box, and one of the doors had a pretty significant scar, but all of these weren’t going to be visible on the exterior of the assembled cabinet, so so it wasn’t a big issue for me. The parts were packaged very well, and there was no damage to the box, so I can only assume they went into the box already damaged, which is pretty irritating, but not worth the effort to swap them out

Nice for the price.I have been looking for three years and finally I found the perfect hutch. Not only is this affordable but it is sturdy. I was able to put this together by myself but an extra pair of hands would have made it a bit easier. My only complaint is that it was missing pre drilled holes on one side so I had to get creative in order for the interior shelf to be used. Other than that, I am happy with the product.

we do like it. HoweverRecently we purchased this cabinet. After all is said and done, we do like it. However, putting it together was not a good experience. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who doesn’t have some experience making things with wood or putting furniture together. So glad we had our son and daughter-in-law to help out and they even had trouble. All the pre-drilled holes for the top of the cabinet were drilled in the wrong place and the top would not fit on. We ended up having to drill more holes in the correct places in order to put this cabinet together. The instructions leave a lot to be desired and, as I said, if you don’t have some experience, you are going to be in trouble. We did get it together after about 3 hours. I am happy with it and it is a very nice looking piece of furniture. My son said the next time I am thinking of ordering something to be put together, call him and he will pay me so I can go out and buy it already assembled.
