A Good Bed Makes a Good DifferenceI don’t typically write reviews for things I like, or don’t like. If I take the time to write down my opinion it’s generally to complain about truly being disappointed or on rare occasions, like this one, truly amazed. Having my expectations exceeded is a rarity, one in which I’m willing to put my time and words to paper – or screen. This, this is one of those exceptional experiences- and I can’t believe it’s over a mattress of all things.Buying a mattress shouldn’t be hard, but it is. It’s made harder by today’s advertising and BS. We no longer know what the best way is to buy the thing we’ve bought our whole life. Are we being ripped off? The answer is of course yes; but how do we solve that? The answer in this case is Zinus.Perhaps embarrassingly, I put more research into my latest mattress purchase than I did my last car. Maybe because it’s such a personal purchase and one you live with for such a long period of time. What you sleep on, and how you sleep, matters. A decade ago I bought my last mattress. It was a good mattress. It was very expensive. It served me well… for a few years. I extended it’s life far past it’s usefulness by adding memory foam and padding and then again by telling myself it was sufficient, for years.After at least a year of restless nights which I attributed to other causes I finally admitted to myself I needed a new bed. What a pain, literally. This began my research into what to buy and from where.If you’re looking at a Zinus then you’ve undoubtedly looked at the other major players in this category. They’ve sprung up all in the last couple of years because of one major reason – mattress sales are a scam. Unfortunately, so are online mattress sales for the most part. After a lot of research which you can do in your own time using Google, nearly all these ‘online mattress companies’ are actually made in the same factory using nearly identical material. They all add in their own exclusive features but they are mostly the same. The major difference being the name on the box it’s shipped in.Zinus is considerably cheaper than the rest. It is nearly identical to the rest. It’s cheaper because they lower their markup. It really is that simple. The big players in this game pretend to offer a great deal but then markup their mattress by 300% or more. Ask yourself why they can afford to let you sleep on it for 3 months, then pay someone to come to your house and take it to the landfill if you don’t want to keep it. They would literally rather pay someone to throw it away than to take it back. That’s how inexpensive it is for them to make them. The markup is so much that their product becomes disposable.This doesn’t mean they are bad mattresses. In fact, all those name brand online retailers sell great mattresses, nearly identical to the Zinus. They are just incredibly overpriced.Now my review – my mattress rant is over. I hope some find it useful.I bought the ‘Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch / Premium / Ultra Plush / Cloud-like Mattress, King’. With it I also bought the platform bed from Zinus – also because of the incredible price and which I’ll also review. (spoiler, it’s fantastic)The mattress comes compressed in a box of course. That’s how it works. Unlike some other manufacturers it fully uncompresses and is ready for sleep on day 1. There is no chemical smell because it’s not treated with the same nasty chemicals that some other manufacturers put on theirs. I’ve read a lot of ‘explanations’ from the other makers as to why they fill theirs with chemicals, none of which are convincing. My guess, is so that they can sit in warehouses for years and not get moldy.This is without a doubt the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on. If it’s comfortable to you will of course depend on what your definition of comfort is. Zinus makes several different mattresses in varying degrees of firmness. I just happened to luck out buying the right one for me the first time, I think. This one is firm, but giving. It’s the kind of mattress where I can roll around on one side and it doesn’t effect my partner on the other side. You don’t feel movement unless it’s right up against you. At the same time it gives slightly, making it very conforming to your body. One of the most important things to me as a person who is generally hot all the time is that it stay cool, and this does. I didn’t realize it until I got this mattress but I believe one of my issues for such a long time, was being hot. I get no heat from this mattress at all.As an example of just how comfortable this mattress is, having not slept in it yet, I also purchased a very expensive and beautiful down mattress topper along with very beautiful, thick, luxurious sheet set. Ultimately I ended up sending all that back because honestly sleeping on the mattress itself with no other bedding under me save a thin fitted sheet is unbelievably comfortable. You’ll want as little as possible between you and the mattress. I’m not sure what I can say that would be more complimentary than that.I’ve had the mattress for a few months now and it really has been life changing. Not in a ‘save the world’ kind of way – but it has saved my sleep. I sleep well, and for the first time in years. A good bed makes a good difference. I’ve been a tad evangelical about this review only because it’s made such a positive improvement in my life- and for far less money than the alternatives.A few tips:Put your mattress on a VERY firm surface. This isn’t your old traditional mattress, you do not want it on a bed springs. If you can’t buy a platform bed now, put it on the floor.Do not add a bed topper even though your experience with your old mattress may incline you otherwise. Sleep as close to the mattress as you can. No topper, thin sheets.If you don’t believe you can buy a great mattress for hundreds less, buy the more expensive ones first (I did). There is no risk in comparison. Those other brands let you send it back within 90 days at no cost. Buy it, send it back, then buy the Zinus and compare. You can also easily send this back. I’d be absolutely shocked if anyone says they went with the more expensive brand after a comparison.I’m glad you spent the time to read this review. Now, do your research, compare, and buy this mattress.

MeeeehhhGot the mattress, and took it out. It didn’t have to inflate fully. Laid it, with the plastic still on it, on top of my old memory foam mattress and it felt like a dream. Waited about 2 weeks, finally hauled my old one off out from under it and took plastic off. Felt like I was sleeping on a rock. I’m guessing it needs an extra OOF to it considering it was awesome with my other mattress under it. It took a few more weeks for it to get “broken in” sometimes it does give my joints some pain and I have to turn a couple of times. It feels SO soft and squishy but more firm than I wanted. It got better after about a month. I guess wither get an extra topper or give it about a month to break into it. It DID inflate to the 10 inches. That’s the queen one I bought. I’m also 240lbs of a woman so that may or may not make a difference.

Price is okay but I expected more.The prices is okay for such a 12 inch matrace. We bought 2 King size and two queen size matraces.I have to say that after 2.5 months of usage the matraces did not regain a nice shape and that’s why I still can see the bed frame at some places (I followe the 72 hours rule).It is also too soft in the middle where it should be a bit more tighter as a support for the back.

Comfortable and AffordableI’ve purchased two of these 10″ and have had ZERO complaints from numerous visitors. Was easy to setup and both expanded for me just fine. I did pull on the sides and ends to lift and drop ‘during’ expansion. Not sure if that helped but worked for me! And, when I’m done remodeling my 3rd bedroom, I’ll be buying another one. Easy decision.

Pleasant surprise!!!I saw a lot of negative reviews about the bed, being too hard, and not expanding all the way. Which made me very concerned because I purchased 2. I let them expand for a day which they expanded to a full 8 inches. We slept on them that night. I overslept and nearly missed my kids bus. Needless to say, I am not disappointed with this purchase.

Perfect mattress for my toddlerPurchased this mattress for my toddler as she is too tall for the average toddler bed. She sleeps perfectly on it and on nights she struggles and I lay with her it’s very comfortable for me as well. I am actually going to purchase the queen size mattress for my teenage daughter as well.

Price perfectI purchased this mattress for my guest room. The mattress expanded very quickly and after 24 hours it was ready to sleep on. It hasn’t had much use yet but it does seem quite comfortable. I would say it’s more on the firm side. I did purchase a foam topper for the top for added comfort. I prefer a softer bed as a firm mattress hurts my hips. Overall the quality is very good for the price.

I got this for free and was so impressed I’m buying another!This is not the first mattress I’ve received for free from Amazon to review. It IS, however, the first mattress I’ve actually loved. In fact, it’s the best mattress I’ve ever slept on and that surprised the heck out of me!This mattress is completely different to our old Sleep Number mattress. It’s nothing like a spring-coiled mattress or even a standard memory foam mattress, either. Sleep Number beds are basically air mattresses covered by a pillowtop, and spring-coiled mattresses are just what they sound like, and most memory foam mattresses only feature 2 or 3 inches of foam on the top.This mattress is ENTIRELY foam: no airbags, no springs, no whatever the heck is under the memory foam in a Tempur-pedic. It really is like sleeping on a pillow, if you could actually find a pillow that supports every inch of your body all night long without being either too hard or too soft. The entirely foam construction is how they’re able to ship it so compactly.OPENING THE BOXAs you can see in the photos I’m attaching, this king-sized mattress arrived in a large, heavy cardboard box. It does specify that it should be a “team lift,” but apparently my poor UPS guy tried to carry it himself. When I saw how banged up the box was I got worried, but I needn’t have: within the box the mattress is tightly encased in a huge plastic drawstring bag. And beneath that it’s vacuum-sealed in extremely thick plastic, too!As soon as I began opening that thick layer of plastic the mattress began to slowly expand. (This fascinated my puppy.) By the time I got the plastic completely off the mattress had expanded to its full size, though it clearly needed additional time to reach its full size. The company’s instructions on this are clear: open it within 72 hours of receipt (I assume so it doesn’t develop permanent lumps) then, after unwrapping, let it sit at least 24 hours before use. In other words: you need to have enough room in your home to let your mattress lie on the floor for a full day. (My puppy apparently hoped this was her new bed. Silly puppy.)MOVING AND POSITIONING THE MATTRESSWhen it first begins expanding the mattress is still floppy, so it’s not terribly easy to move. I don’t think it would be a good idea to try to get it out of the way by setting it on its side at this point, either; it’s still pretty floppy and I wonder if that might prevent it from reaching its proper shape.At any rate, after 24 hours had passed I was able to awkwardly move the mattress into my bedroom and get it in position on my bed all by myself. Being foam it’s lighter than standard innerspring mattresses, so really my only concern was breaking a fingernail or pulling on the outer mattress cover too hard and tearing it. Fortunately, neither happened.Since I’d kept the platform from our old Sleep Number bed and this mattress fit on it perfectly. I note that another reviewer claimed the mattress was something like 2 inches longer and wider than his old mattress. I have no idea why he ran into that problem — this mattress fit my bed platform and sheets perfectly.SLEEPING ON THE MATTRESSI’d read and heard that people often feel hot and sweaty when they first sleep on a memory foam mattress, largely because the foam means more of their body is in contact with the mattress than they’re used to. Since I transitioned from a Sleep Number bed (which almost always partially deflated overnight as I slept) I was used to that happening at night. Imagine my surprise when I didn’t feel hot on this mattress at all!What I felt, instead, was utterly comfortable. It really DOES cushion your entire body. There are no pressure points, so my hip never got painful while I laid on my side reading in bed for a couple of hours before going to sleep. I’m usually a tummy sleeper and loved how this mattress let me sleep in my favorite position without feeling like I was doing a reverse backbend. When my puppy woke me up for a middle-of-the-night potty trip I was surprised to find myself lying on my back _without a pillow_ and feeling perfectly comfortable!The next morning, I woke up refreshed and without a stiff back or shoulders. Just another bad review…***UPDATED***I have updated my original review score of (2) stars to (5) stars. This is not in regards to the mattress, but rather to reflect the excellent customer service that I received from Zinus and Amazon. After my review below, I removed the mattress from my bedroom and put it back out in the ventilated area in hopes that the smell would eventually recede and the mattress would continue to expand to it’s full size. Unfortunately, there was really no discernible change in expansion or in the terrible odor during that time. So, I decided to start the return process, and was, quite frankly, expecting to accept the fact that I had wasted my money with this purchase. Honestly, I could not have been more wrong. Zinus responded to my review within (4) four hours and gave detailed instructions on how to proceed. After following their instructions and contacting Amazon I was issued the full purchase price, as I did not want to take another chance with this bed. The only thing I was asked to do was give the mattress to a charity or dispose of it, which I will gladly be doing the latter. I can’t wait to not smell it anymore. I would like to say thank you to both Zinus and Amazon for taking care of the situation. Endings such as these seem to be too few and far between these days. Needless to say, I will be purchasing another mattress from Amazon once the refund goes through.Well, I waited a full week, but so far like many others, I’m disappointed with the purchase of this mattress. Let me start by saying that it was a Prime item that arrived a late. And as you can see from a couple of the pictures below it looked like the box was dragged the entire way behind the delivery truck. To top it all off, it was left sitting outside my place of residence in the driveway…Yes, I mean just laying on the ground where anyone could have made off with it if they wanted to. Apparently, opening a breezeway door was just too much for the deliver guy. There was some damage to the mattress inner packaging, but the bed itself was undamaged. Anyway, I followed the unpacking directions, and let the bed sit in a ventilated area for 72 hours before sleeping on it. During that time it inflated to about 9 inches, and in the full week since, the center sections have managed a little more than 10 inches but the corners have remained at 9″. And two corners seem deformed. The bed is extremely firm, with little to no give. Which also defeats the purpose of this purchase. This mattress is replacing a firm hybrid bed and I would have to say it’s a toss up between which one is harder. I have recently switched to sleeping on my side, so, I was looking for a plush mattress that would accommodate me. Needless to say, I’m not sleeping on a cloud. Additionally, the smell has not diminished at all. It is incessant, all encompassing, and permeates anything that comes in contact with it for more than an hour. When I go to the gym and pull my clothes out of my gym bag I can smell the bed. When I come back home and step into the house the first thing I can smell is…the bed. It’s been a week…How long is it supposed to take before this starts to taper off? Look, I read many of the reviews before making the purchase so I know that this isn’t anything new. I took a chance and simply got a bad egg. I’ll try to give it another week to see what happens, but I’ve pretty much decided to ask for a refund and go with another brand. Hmm, maybe, I’m just being grumpy from lack of sleep. One questions I would like to ask others who have had the same problem, is if they live in cold climate areas. I do, and wonder if being delivered and sitting in the cold for lengthy periods of time effects the bed negatively? It’s hard to believe there can be so many differing reviews on this thing. Who knows.

Glad I Bought ItI have been sleeping on the “Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch / Premium / Cloud-like Mattress, Queen” for about a week now and I am very happy with it. I got this bed because I have suffered from lower back pain when while sleeping for over a decade. There were times it took me literally more than 20 minutes to get out of bed because the paid was so bad. For the past few years I have been taking 800 mg’s of Ibuprofen at night. This is prescribedI had my old spring bed for well over a decade. This is my first foam mattress. And, I had some concerns, but almost all the reviews for it were positive. I made the leap and purchased it. I followed the unpacking instructions and I slept on the bed the very first night. I took a chance and didn’t take my Ibuprofen before bed. I didn’t sleep great, but I rarely do. What I can say, is that when I woke the first morning, I didn’t have any back pain.However, over the past week I have woken a few times with back pain. But, nothing like it used to be and for that I am grateful. I haven’t taken any Ibuprofen since I got this Zinus mattress. I am on several medications for Diabetes and high blood pressure. Being able to not have to take pain meds before bed, is such a relief.Sleeping on a foam mattress, is a little different. They don’t have that spring feeling that spring mattress have. I never realized how much easier it is to move on a spring mattress. When you sleep on a foam mattress you tend to sink in so when attempting to move or roll over it can take a little more effort. And, when you do move, there’s still a decompression of where you just were for a little while.I am side sleeper so when I rollover I have to make sure I move far enough away from where I was or else I feel like I am going to fall back into the depression in the bed that I just moved from. It took some getting used to and now I don’t really even notice it much.The reason I don’t give it 5 stars is for mostly selfish reasons, mostly. I still have some some back pain, I am still getting used to feel of this new mattress. To be honest, I probably expected too much from this mattress. But, the reality of the situation is that I don’t take those pain meds any more. I am sleeping better and for longer periods of time with little to no pain.I don’t make a lot of money, for me this was a big expense but it was absolutely worth it. I highly recommend it. Just be warned it’s not a spring mattress, it doesn’t feel like one, it’s a different sleep experience that can take some getting used to, for some people. But overall, this is not only a good deal, it’s a good mattress.And one last thing. The packaging and set up for this mattress was simple enough to set up on my own. Granted I’m a 6′ 2″ guy and it would have been a little easier with some help, thanks everyone in the house that just watched and didn’t lift a finger to help! But, I digress. It’s a simple setup. The mattress took about 4 days before it reached 12″. After about 6 hours of it decompressing it was at about 10″ inches when I finally went to bed.The package contents were also something special. Make sure to read the envelope attached to the mattress wrapping. It’s cute and funny.Oh, and as for the registration. I went to the Zinus website to register the mattress. I had some questions, so I just called instead. I was told that registration is not necessary. But, to keep the receipts. Without them, there is nothing you can do if a problem arises with my new mattress. The actual call to Zinus was nice, there was a recording at first, that apologized for being automated and that made me smile. Within a minute or so I was connected to a real person. Who was friendly and informative.
